Cambodia Mission Trip July 2012

Our team and I had an amazing, life-changing trip to Cambodia this summer! I still feel like I've just left Cambodia and can't wait to go back. It may happen sooner than later ;)  Here is a short summary, if you'd like the long version, I'd love to share. Let me know!

During our short-term missions week in Cambodia (from July 21-28th), we served with the organization Agape International Missions. Agape's mission is to prevent child sex trafficking in Cambodia and restore hope to its victims by providing holistic aftercare to rescued victims, equipping and mobilizing the church to take action and building church sponsored community centers in sex-trafficking hot spots. At their Siem Reap facility, called Rahab’s House (where we served), Agape provides care and education for 9 girls freed from sex slavery. They also conduct outreach to local karaoke clubs and massage parlors. Along with this, they shine the light of God into their community through free health clinics, street clean up, and other demonstrations of God’s love. Our team and I were able to work alongside the Agape staff in all the wonderful ministries God has given them in Siem Reap.

Our team of 11 provided special classes during the week for the girls living at Rahab’s House as well as many community kids. Our lessons included, piano, guitar, hand bells, dance, sports and crafts. I lead the dance class :) So much fun!  During the week we helped with street clean up and visited community members to pass out flyers for a free health clinic. Our team also participated in outreach at local karaoke clubs and massage parlors with the staff at Agape. These places are just fronts for prostitution in many places throughout Cambodia and SE Asia.

This mission trip has taught me so many things. I learned patience and how to stay calm in many situations. I also continued to be reminded to trust in God and he will take care of the rest. The thing I learned the most was that my future will undoubtedly involve some type of missionary service concerning fighting to end sex slavery. Throughout the week there were moments where it was revealed that I would fit right into Agape. I'm not sure what the future holds, but I'm very excited. Whether in Korea, Cambodia or back to the States I trust that God is preparing me and will lead me to the place He wants to use me next.

God Bless!
