Young Learners

About two weeks ago I found out that only a couple students had signed up for my after school class. My co-teacher tried to help me by saying that there are many other classes offered at the same time and most of the 5th and 6th graders already go to academy's after school. It made sense, but I was still a little disappointed. I love my 5th and 6th graders! Instead they asked if I would be willing to teach 1st and 2nd graders. Keep in mind, they're basically Kindergarden and 1st graders American age-wise. Now, I've learned over the years that I work better with older kids so I was a little hesitant. However, I would only be teaching them twice a week for 40 min each. I thought and prayed about it and decided I was ready for the challenge. And so far, it's definitely been a challenge. I started this week Wed and Thurs, which also happens to be the first week that I've been sick since I came to Korea... not the best timing. Even though I haven't been feeling well, I planned some decent lessons. We're starting with the alphabet and they are pretty darn adorable singing the ABC's. They still speak full sentences to me in Korea, which I don't really understand yet haha. Hopefully they will adapt and start miming or something. I also hope this cold goes away soon...in the words of one of my students, "I am hungry. I am tired. I feel not good. I am triple combo."
