A few stories to share...

A few of my 5th grade girls have been stopping by my classroom after school the past few days. They asked to play some games. So I taught them Apples to Apples Jr. & UNO & Halli Galli. As we were playing Halli Galli, its a card speed game where when there is exactly 5 of the same fruits out you ding the bell in the middle and get all the cards, I start to lose. No not on purpose, those girls are fast! Anyway, so I now have less cards than both of them. Then, one of the girls dings the bell first and takes all the cards. And she takes half of them and says 'teacher seon mul'  and gives them to me. 'Seon mul' means 'present' -- how cute! I've never played a game with kids where they give up their cards so I could keep playing. I was so surprised I could hardly say thank you haha. While it was a kind gesture it also meant the game would never end. Eventually we had to say no more 'seon mul.' I'll keep saying it, I love my students!!

Here's another story for ya, not as cool though. More of a discovery I guess. I went to use the ladies room today only to discover that both bathrooms on my floor were out of toilet paper, when I finally went back and got tissues I went to the last stall and low and behold, there was a western style toilet! I couldn't believe I've been teaching at that school for 6 months and not found the western toilet yet! It was amazing! I will be going there from now on :)

Oh and big news...I'm officially in college again! Well, kinda. I'm taking a Korean language class at Yonsei University for 10 weeks. But it's pretty intense. Three days a week at 3 hours each...I better learn something ;) I took my placement test yesterday, we'll see what level I end up in. I'm hoping for level 2 or 3. I also discovered that it takes me less time to get to my class here than it did living on campus in Duluth. Crazy! It took me 8 min from my apt. So glad and grateful that it's so close! Oh & on the way to my test I saw my first Korean ajussi fight between two taxi drivers. I have no idea why they were fighting, but they both had gotten out of their cars (one had passengers in the back) right in front of the East Gate to Yonsei so no one could enter campus. They were pushing and yelling and spitting!! It was disgusting & ridiculous & childish!! I couldn't believe it! I don't understand how people can act like that, especially in public, while you're working! I guess I was bound to see it sometime...they 'settled' it before the police came by driving away, but I could tell they were still pretty peeved. Sad.

Well that's all for tonight. No school tomorrow, as my students said, "It's school birthday" which means is the day the school was founded like 50 years or so ago so no school!! yay! But I'm still tired and should prolly get some stuff done tomorrow, so I'm off to bed. G'nite all!! Well, technically it's morning in the states...so good morning (unless you're my students and are unhappy with which they reply with "teacher, bad morning (sad face)" why can't they just say 'good morning' like normal ppl!! everyday, ugh, they need more happiness in their lives...I'll work on that. For now, sleep. Bye!
