Last week I started the paperwork process for staying another year in Korea. There's a medical exam and a bunch of paperwork to fill out. Dealing with that is a little complicated and as Christmas approached all I wanted was to go home. I made extra phone calls home, finalized my Christmas plans and managed to make it through. Christmas in Korea is a little different from home. I think it's because Korean culture isn't rooted in Christianity. Christmas here is very commercialized, much like Western culture, but I it's more of a couple and friends holiday. Unlike home, everything is open during Christmas and it seems like one of the biggest date nights of the year. The streets were packed with people! And anyone celebrated had to have a Christmas cake. The stores didn't even have other cakes, only Christmas ones. They did however have many festive decorations. Here are a few :)

Most of Seoul was decorated for Christmas. Even my one room apartment got a little something. Thanks to the Lee's, family friends of ours from Hastings who were visiting Korea, my parents sent me my Christmas stocking! I was sooooooo happy! Here are a few things in my stocking.

On Christmas Eve we had our missions meeting. Our preparations are still going well and I'm loving getting to know my team. They are awesome!! I can tell that God is continuing to shape our hearts and give us each the knowledge we need to do His work in Cambodia and Thailand. After our meeting I ran into a bunch of Santa's playing some Christmas tunes on the street. (see below) Christmas day was pretty cool too. Skyped with the family in the morning and then lunch with a friend. Then we headed to church and celebrated our Savior's birth :) After, we sang Christmas carols on the street in the freezing cold. So much fun! After we warmed up my friends and I bought white elephant gifts and headed to someone's apt where we ordered food, watched TV, played some games and just chilled. It was a pretty wonderful Christmas! The best I could ask for away from home.
